Triple Chocolate X Hazelnut Panettone

Pre-order yours now and pick up @worthingtonfarmersmarket this Saturday 9a-12p. www.crustxcrumb.com/panettone

Crafting our Panettone is a three day process with many stages of mixing the enriched dough and fermentation. Being sourdough bakers, we love that our Panettone is naturally leavened, and embodies the finest ingredients including imported Italian flour, French and Belgium chocolate, local eggs and honey.

This 500g size is great for 2-10 people and will last for a couple of weeks, if you don’t eat it all at one time (like we have). It is best to store keep it in an airtight bag, away from direct heat or sunlight. As it dries out, you can enjoy it toasted.

We are excited to have the OSU Wexner Medical Center with us again! They will be conducting free stroke screenings and discussing risk factors that increase someone’s chance of a stroke. In addition, they will provide follow up information to help guide lifestyle adjustments to help reduce someone’s risk by improving their modifiable risk factors.

CALLING ALL SOUPER HEROES!

We’re Back, Baby! The Worthington Farmers Market is excited to partner with Souper Heroes founder Tricia Keels for the first public event since early 2020! Please join us Saturday, February 24, 11am - 1pm, alongside our winter indoor market at The Shops at Worthington Place.

Not familiar with Souper Heroes? It’s a fun, social and charitable event designed to help support hunger-relief agencies in the Columbus area. This event benefits the Worthington Resource Pantry.

Souper Heroes Mission:  Fun with food and community while providing for those who don’t have enough of either.

We’re looking for soup makers for the re-launch event and we’d love for you to source your ingredients at the Market the week prior to the event (think: frozen meats, root vegetables, hard squash, shelf-stable products, and other items that will store well for a week).

Click this link to sign up to bring a soup on February 24!

Bring a family-size slow cooker of soup (and a ladle!) to the market on February 24 no later than 10:45am and be ready to serve at 11am. Buffet line and diner seating will be in the vacant storefront in the far northeast corner of the mall. Just look for the Souper Heroes posters in the window!

We’ll have plenty of electric outlets for plugging in and keeping all those yummy soups warm. There will be bread from several of our market bakers to accompany your soups. And we will provide bowls, cups, spoons and napkins – all eco-friendly and compostable, of course!

Save the Dates for 2 more WFM Souper Heroes Events!

  • Saturday, March 16, “Going Green”

  • Saturday, April 20, Chili Cook-Off (with prizes!)

VALENTINE DEALS & STEALS FROM THE MARKET

MERCANTILE

MADE FROM THE MARKET

by John Vizcarrondo

Very Easy Pulled Pork in Six Steps

This recipe is super easy for busy people that like a set-it-and-forget-it process. I used a Crock-Pot, but see the Notes at the end for alternatives.

Step 1: Saturday at the market, head over to the Curly Tail Farm booth and ask Ed for a pork shoulder. Choose a 2-to-3-pound shoulder.

Step 2: Still on Saturday, go to the Montezuma booth and look for a jar of salsa to your liking. My favorites are Tangy Lime Garlic and Fiesta Salsa.

Step 3: When you get home from the market, place the shoulder in the fridge for slow thawing.

Step 4: On Monday morning, take the thawed shoulder out of the package, pat dry and season liberally with salt and pepper (or your favorite rub, if you prefer). Place shoulder in a zipper bag and put it back in the fridge for tomorrow.

Step 5: On Tuesday morning, before going to work, place the shoulder in the Crock-Pot and pour the content of the salsa jar over it. If the salsa you chose is very chunky, you can add a ¼ cup of water or broth. Optionally, if you have time, add a coarsely chopped onion to the Crock-Pot. Turn it on to low if you are going to be back in about 8 hours or more, or high, if you are going to be back in 4 to 6 hours.

Step 6: Tuesday, when you are back, take the shoulder out and, using two forks, pull the pork apart. You are now ready to add any sides (coleslaw would be nice), or make sandwiches.  Enjoy!

Notes: I don’t own an Instant Pot, but it will work just as well as a Crock-Pot. You might have to adjust the time accordingly.  I think that an enameled cast iron Dutch oven would work in the oven at 250 F, but I have not tested it.
