Celebrate With Us! National Farmers Market Week!

Join us in celebrating National Farmers Market Week and all things local this Saturday, August 9th! Along with all the regular fare the farmers market has to offer, we’ll have our annual farm animal experience, face painting and kids crafts. We look forward to seeing you there. Saturday from 8AM to noon in Old Worthington.

Veggie Spy & Versatile Vegan

It’s National Farmers Market Week and we’re plum excited to celebrate with you! Make sure to stop by and pick up fresh, local produce and check out all of the festivities!

Plums: Gillogly Orchard

Celery: South Side Family Farm, Raber Family Organics

Romano Beans: Oakleaf Farm

Sweet Onions: Tilley Farmstead, Cottage Garden, Raber Family Organics, Oakleaf Farm

Compared to "standard" green bean varieties like blue lake, romano beans are flat and wide, and also sturdier and meatier. The Versatile Vegan suggests you get to know romanos with this easy and satisfying side dish recipe for Braised Romano Beans with Spicy Cherry Tomato Sauce & Lemony Ground Walnuts:

Take advantage of the bounty of sweet onions at the market with this easy creamy Sweet Onion Dressing:

Celery has appeared at the market, so give this Creamy Celery Soup a try!

There's plenty of producers and varieties to choose from when shopping for tomatoes. Plus, plums are at the market and there are cucumbers aplenty as well. Put that all together in this refreshing tomato plum salad. Feeling peachy? Swap the plums for peaches from the market!

Find the truck in front of US Bank on the east side of High Street.

Food Truck: McGinnis Grill

McGinnis Grill specializes in gourmet sandwiches served up on crispy, buttery griddled Texas toast. Chef John offers a variety of breakfast, brunch and lunch options. And don’t skip the home fries!

Cooking Caravan Comes to the Market!

Next Saturday, August 16, 9-10am, find the Cooking Caravan on East New England Avenue in front of the Dewey’s Pizza Plaza for a one-of-kind cooking demo!

The Cooking Caravan is a group of chefs, artists, actors and musicians devoted to enriching health and feeding artistic hunger. Whether it is through food, knowledge, or some much needed musical expression, nourishment is what we provide.

The Caravan are bringing their unique brand of education and entertainment to the one of the best Farmers' Markets in the country! Caravan Chefs will create a tasty, seasonal salsa from the WFM's wonderful bounty, while employing help from market patrons young and old. Come see (and taste) market ingredients in action as The Caravan discusses the techniques and ingredients in use.

John Croke has worked professionally at theaters in the Midwest and in the South, and his plays and poetry have been produced and performed in places as far away as London, England. His roots in the Southwest and Deep South have informed his unique cooking perspective and John’s dishes have won several competitions in the Central Ohio area.

Chuck Johnson is an author and multimedia producer/performer that uses art to teach and inspire his audiences and help blur the lines between education and performance...both in Caravan programs and in his own classes. His book, Potty Rock, is a hilarious story-song combining lush art work with catchy song and video.
