The Caravan — Kids Cooking Demo!

We are so excited to welcome the Cooking Caravan to the market for the first of three cooking demonstrations beginning tomorrow Saturday, August 16, 9-10am. Find them on East New England Avenue in front of the Dewey’s Pizza Plaza for a one-of-kind cooking demo!

The Caravan are bringing their unique brand of education and entertainment to the one of the best Farmers' Markets in the country! Caravan Chefs will create a tasty, seasonal salsa from the WFM's wonderful bounty, while employing help from market patrons young and old. Come see (and taste) market ingredients in action as The Caravan discusses the techniques and ingredients in use.

The Cooking Caravan is a group of chefs, artists, actors and musicians devoted to enriching health and feeding artistic hunger. Whether it is through food, knowledge, or some much needed musical expression, nourishment is what we provide.

Veggie Spy & Versatile Vegan

With it being the dog days of summer and back to school, it's hard to have any pep in your step. We've got you covered with plenty of poblano peppers! We also have tasty melon microgreens, swiss chard and more!

Swiss Chard: South Side Family Farms, Franklinton Farms, Toad Hill Farm

Tulsi (or Holy) Basil: South Side Family Farms

Garlic Braids: Mayapple Farms

Melon Microgreens: New Path Farm

Poblano Peppers: Drift Hills Farm

Not only are their plenty of melons at the market, but aficionados should note melon microgreens taste like melons!

Tulsi (or Holy) basil is an herb sacred in Hindu culture and is also thought to have multiple health benefits. Masala chai ("spiced tea") often includes tulsi basil leaves and the Versatile Vegan recommends this Vegan Tulsi Chai recipe:

Swiss Chard is beautiful this time of year and this easy Swiss Chard and Cannellini Beans recipe is a beaut as well! Serve on toast or serve it with a grain like rice or quinoa:

Poblanos are a type of Mexican chili pepper that is about half as hot as a jalapeno. A staple of Mexican and Southwestern cooking, poblanos are versatile enough for this easy and excellent Six Ingredient Roasted Poblano Pepper Soup. In addition to the poblanos, you can get the garlic, onions, and potatoes at the market!
