4 Things To Do With the Worthington Historical Society This Summer

Amongst many of the activities resuming this summer, the Worthington Historical Society is bringing back tours and open hours. We rounded up four activities you can do with them this summer!

1. Talk a walking tour of Historic Worthington

Starting July 11, walking tours of historic Worthington return! These one-hour guided walking tours explore on life in Worthington during the early 1800s. The tour highlights familiar names and lesser known stories from the city’s early days. 

Upcoming tours:

  • July 11: southwest quadrant of the historic district

  • August 29: southeast quadrant

  • September 26: southwest quadrant

  • October 10: northern quadrants

Tours are suggested for ages 12 and up, and are $5 per person. Sign up at worthingtonhistory.org by clicking the blue ‘Book A Tour’ button.

2. Visit the Doll Museum and The Shop at the Old Rectory

The Shop at the Old Rectory and The Doll Museum are now open Thursdays and Fridays from 1-4 p.m. and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Perfect for visiting while you’re out shopping the Worthington Farmers Market!

3. Book a tour of the Orange Johnson House

One of Worthington’s oldest residences is again open for tours on Wednesdays and Sundays by reservation only. Tours are usually limited to groups of four. Guests must reserve spaces for the one-hour guided tour via the Historical Society’s website in advance. Visit worthingtonhistory.org and click the blue ‘Book A Tour’ button to schedule. (P.S. Group tours may also be available by calling the Historical Society.)

4. Take one of four self-guided tours

The Historical Society has organized four different tours you can take at your own leisure using the PocketSights app or a downloadable PDF:

  • Old Worthington Historic District tour (through PocketSights app)

  • African American History in Worthington (through PocketSights app)

  • Walnut Grove Cemetery Tour (through PocketSights app)

  • St John’s Cemetery Tour (in partnership with Experience Worthington, as PDF)
