Veggie Spy & Versatile Vegan

Oh kale yeah, it finally feels like FALL! We have so many delicious veggies to help you shift into soup mode, so make sure to get to the market early and secure all of your favorite seasonal produce!

While there are still plenty of peppers and tomatoes at the market, don't miss other items like these. Don't know what to do with them? The Versatile Vegan has done the homework for you. Check out her suggested recipes!

  • Leeks - Cottage Garden, Raber

  • Daikon Radish - Cottage Garden (they're sweet!)

  • Chestnuts - Gillogly

  • Kale - Franklinton, Jorgensen, Toad Hill

If kale doesn't excite you, your mind may be changed by this recklessly named Anything Goes Kale Salad with Green Tahini. Well, maybe not anything.

Daikon is an Asian variety of radish that is milder than the popular red radishes and it has a hint of sweetness that increases when it is cooked. The Versatile Vegan suggests sticking with an Asian theme with this recipe for Cold Japanese Noodles with Daikon and Carrots. Note carrots are readily available at the market.

Leeks are popular in soups, like this vegan potato leek soup. You can find potatoes at Drift Hills, Raber, and others. Soup weather is almost here!

Food Truck: Ajumama

Local favorite Ajumama is back by popular demand featuring some of Chef Laura Lee’s fast-and-sassy Korean-American street food classics! Fill up (or share with a friend!) on rich and savory Bulgogi Hash. You can’t go wrong with the Korean Fried Chicken Biscuit drizzled with Pleiades Maple Syrup or the breakfast sando with a side of Dduk’n’Cheese!

Find the truck in front of US Bank on the eat side of High Street.

Producer & Market Partner News

Ridiculously Good Salsa, Booth #6, Southwest Village Green

Chips, toppings, and a scoop (or three) of Ridiculously Good Salsa = the kind of simple joy we’re here for.

Now, who’s hungry for a walking taco?

Sweet Thing Gourmet, Booth #22, West High Street (near the barber shop)

Did you know that Benjamin Franklin introduced rhubarb to America, way back in 1770?

I assumed it was native to America until a bartender at Barcelona shared a taste with me of a rhubarb and carrot liqueur from a small distillery out west.

The next day I dove in to create a new jam with roasted organic carrots, stewed rhubarb, carrot juice, cardamom, fresh ginger, and Indonesian cinnamon. And that, my friends, is how the Benjamin was born.

I just made three new batches! Stop by and sample it at the market this week, and see why it’s one of my all time favorites.

IN THE NEWS!

Cafe Graciela, Booth #2, Southwest Village Green

Today, we’re shining a spotlight on Café Graciela, a Colombian coffee business owned by three siblings right here in Columbus. Their family grows the coffee on farms in Colombia, and they’ve brought it to Central Ohio so you can enjoy it locally—or order it online!

With support from Food Fort Columbus, Café Graciela gained the space, funding, and resources to expand into retail and strengthen their business strategy. Just as importantly, being part of a community of entrepreneurs gave them mentorship and encouragement along the way.
