Marja Mills to present at Worthington Library's next Hear & Now Author Series

In 2004, Marja Mills, a former reporter for the Chicago Tribune, moved into a rented house in Monroeville, Alabama, next door to the town’s most famous resident, Harper Lee, the publicity-shy author of the beloved novel To Kill a Mockingbird, and her sister, Alice. During the 18 months that Mills lived in Monroeville, she spent time with the sisters, accompanying them on drives, dinners at Burger King, and duck feedings. Earlier this year she published a memoir about her experience: The Mockingbird Next Door: Life with Harper Lee. Mills will present at the Worthington Library’s next event in the Hear & Now Author Series. Scheduled to take place on Thursday, January 29 at 7 p.m. at the Peggy R. McConnell Arts Center (777 Evening Street), the event offers a promising peek at the enigmatic author’s life through the eyes and ears of Mills.

The Hear & Now Author Series started in 2012 as a way to bring emerging and established writers to town. In addition to the Worthington Libraries, the event is sponsored by the Peggy R. McConnell Arts Center and Holiday Inn. Past presenters have included Pushcart Prize-winning poet George Bilgere, Newbery Award winner Jack Gantos and New York Times best-selling author Augusten Burroughs.
