Downtown Worthington is the place to be for prime window-shopping this holiday season. Thanks to the Old Worthington Partnership’s first annual “It’s a Wonderful Window Contest,” folks who shop at their favorite Worthington businesses now through December 26, 2015 will enjoy festive window displays and the opportunity to support numerous local charities.

The idea to host a window-decorating contest is part of the Old Worthington Partnership's ongoing efforts to increase foot traffic in the downtown area. It brings merchants and nonprofits together for an event the entire community can support.

Here's how it works:

This past week, 23 local merchants and 26 local charities combined efforts to create magical window displays at shops, restaurants and businesses throughout Old Worthington. During the Holiday Open House, the displays were unveiled and the voting started.

To get involved, simply visit the participating merchants and vote for your favorite display using a ballot box located inside each shop. Each vote requires a minimum contribution of one dollar ($1 = one vote), and you may vote as many times as you like and for as many windows as you want. Here's the best part: 100% of the proceeds collected at each merchant will go directly to the charity that helped create the display.

From adorable pet-themed windows at both Magic Cruises and Tours and The Candle Lab, to an elaborate train display at Denig Jewelers and a whimsical Santa’s Mail Room window at Igloo Letterpress, you’ll have a hard time choosing a favorite.

“We are so pleased with the entries in this year’s window contest,” said Jennifer Lyon, Old Worthington Partnership board member. “We had a fabulous turnout at the Holiday Open House and are thrilled to offer yet another great reason for folks to visit Worthington during the holidays.”

Everyone Wins

At the end of the month, the Old Worthington Partnership will announce a contest winner and award the participating merchant and charity a beautiful bronze window to proudly display until passing it along to next year’s winner. Although only one window will win the grand prize, all of the participants deserve praise and recognition for the hard work and creativity that went into each display. “The windows are so well done; you’ll definitely want to visit them all,” Lyon added.
